Inspiring Behavior Change in the National Parks

ROLE
Creative Direction, Design, Communications Consultant

I was approached by a small communications team who’s goal was to increase the percentage of National Park visitors who were following safe food storage rules.

The pilot included some “throwback” imagery to have visitors engage with the materials and was used initially at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in California with more to come.

After deciding on a retro theme and brainstorming taglines that would be memorable, the team decided on “Clean Campsite, Clear Conscience.” I got to work sketching out how it may appear on materials and created vector versions.

Illustrations were created to be both engaging and informational with vintage flair.

Final deliverables were created that fit into the existing park templates but used the new illustrations and tagline.

KPI

Since deployment, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has seen a 20% increase in food safety compliance.

“Bonnie was reliable, a team player, and is an extremely talented and versatile designer. I would not hesitate to hire her again on future projects!”

– Amanda Martinek, Communications Manager
